Petri Suvanto showcased his raw speed during the Chris Griffis Memorial Road to Indy test with Team Pelfrey at Indianapolis Motor Speedway last October.

Finnish driver Petri Suvanto announced he will return to Team Pelfrey for his sophomore season in the Pro Mazda Championship.

Suvanto, 20, earned a podium finish in St. Petersburg last season in Star Mazda and claimed 10 top-five results. He was fifth in the drivers’ standings.

This season, Suvanto will have his eyes on the crown and will join fellow championship-contender Spencer Pigot at Team Pelfrey.

Suvanto returns to Pro Mazda after winning the USF2000 National Championship in 2011 (five wins, 11 podiums).

This is a good move for Suvanto. With an extra year of experience and familiarity with Team Pelfrey he will be a front-runner in the 2013 Championship. Add in the fact that he’ll be working with Pigot — Pelfrey has a deep roster. Watch for good things in 2013.
