Paul Mata, former team manager for Team GDT, has formed M1 Racing and named Juan Camilo Acosta as the team’s first driver. Acosta will compete in the 2013 Pro Mazda Championship.

Acosta, 22, tested a Pro Mazda machine at the 2012 Chris Griffis Memorial Test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway with Team GDT last fall, clocking the fourth and fifth quickest times in the two-day test on the road course. Following the test, Acosta drove in the season-finale at Road Atlanta, finishing 13th.

In 2012, Acosta — a native of Colombia — drove in the Fórmula Abarth PanAm GP Series, earning a win at Bogotá en route to seventh overall in the championship despite only running four events.
