Finnish driver Petri Suvanto has signed with Cape Motorsports/Wayne Taylor Racing for the 2011 USF2000 National Championship.
The 18-year-old up-and-coming driver has an impressive background in karting, including a fourth-place run in the 2008 KF2 CIK-FIA European Championship and a sixth-place effort that same year in the ultra-competitive WSK International Series (KF2). Prior to his time in KF2, Suvanto competed in KF3 and JICA.
Last season saw Suvanto make his debut in the car ranks through a Formula BMW Scholarship. He ran 16 races in Formula BMW Europe, securing a best finish of sixth at both Zandvoort and Silverstone. Suvanto concluded the year with eight top-10 finishes, including five consecutive at the end of the season.
Suvanto joins Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing after recently completing a successful three-day test with the squad. He will make his debut with the team when the USF2000 National Championship opens its season on March 16-18 at Sebring International Raceway.
This is a pretty solid signing for Cape/WTR. Watch for good things from this duo in 2011.
