Brazilian Victor Carbone has signed with Sam Schmidt Motorsports for the 2011 Indy Lights season. Carbone — who won the 2010 F2000 Championship Series — tested with SSM in early December at Sebring International Raceway.

Sam Schmidt Motorsports won the 2010 Firestone Indy Lights title with Frenchman JK Vernay behind the wheel of the No. 7 machine.

Last season, Carbone, 18, showcased his growth by compiling six wins and eight podiums in the F2000 Championship Series, driving for Alegra Motorsports. The jump to Indy Lights is huge, so I expect we will see a gradual increase in his results throughout the season. Watch for this to be a two-year stop.

Wade Cunningham jumped from F2000 to Indy Lights and won a championship. It was his 3rd year in cars…
If Carbonne is good enough he will be fine.
Cunningham remains a great untapped talent
