Spencer Pigot has signed with Andretti Autosport for the 2011 USF2000 National Championship. The 17-year-old Florida resident made the announcement last week at the PRI show in Orlando.

The ride will be provided by Mazda as a reward for Pigot’s championship-winning performance in the 2010 Skip Barber National Championship. He completed the season with three wins, five poles and 12 podium finishes. Additionally, he was awarded the prestigious Team USA Scholarship this fall that sent him to Europe representing the USA — alongside co-winner Felix Serralles — in the Formula Ford Festival and the Walter Hayes Trophy.

Pigot will pilot the No. 8 car, filling the Andretti Autosport seat vacated by 2010 USF2000 champion Sage Karam. This is a solid move for Pigot and a great signing for Andretti Autosport. Watch for a serious championship run from this duo in 2011.

“I learned a lot last year in the Skip Barber National Championship that prepared me very well for the upcoming season,” said Pigot.  It’s an honor to be associated with Andretti Autosport, and I’m really looking forward to driving for the team next year. My main goal is to become an IZOD IndyCar driver, so there is no better place for me than with this team.”
