Gustavo Yacaman has signed with Team Moore Racing for the 2011 Indy Lights season.
The 19-year-old Colombian will be returning for his junior season of Indy Lights’ competition. Yacaman and Team Moore will rely on the engineering skills of Lee Dykstra. An extensive testing plan is being put in place starting in January, according to a team release.
Yacaman has continued to develop as a race car driver and will look to progress even further in 2011. He struggled early in his Indy Lights career with DNFs, failing to finish five races in 2009 while driving for Sam Schmidt Motorsports. Last year, while driving for Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing, he decreased that number to just three DNFs, compiling seven top-10s in 13 starts.
Yacaman has worked extremely hard off the track, maintaining a strict physical fitness routine and competing in various triathlons to stay in shape. It goes without saying, 2011 should be his best season yet. If he’s able to stay out of trouble and finish all his races, he will be a real threat to the competition.
