Martin Plowman, aka Plowey, drove a perfect race today under sunny skies at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course to claim his first career Indy Lights win.  He led all forty laps after qualifying on pole yesterday.  James Hinchcliffe ran second for the majority of the race but made a slight error in the closing laps and dropped back to seventh, allowing Dan Clarke to take over second spot.  American Charlie Kimball finished third, landing his fourth podium of the year.

“My head’s not here right now,” said Plowman, following Sunday’s win. “It’s been a long time coming and to get it after all the hard work is just wonderful.  This is my first major win since go-karts.”

Plowman becomes the fifth winner this season after driving a mistake free race.  Stefan Wilson finished in fourth position with Sebastian Saavedra close behind in fifth.

The race itself was fairly uneventful.  Kimball made a couple nice passes at the start and Juan Pablo Garcia made a nice pass for 11th over David Martinez.  Other than that it was pretty much follow-the-leader for 40-laps. Championship leader J.K. Vernay finished 8th – his worst road course finish of the season – just behind Hinchcliffe.  Ironically, or perhaps not, Hinchcliffe set the fastest lap of the race (1:13.9531) just ahead of J.K. Vernay’s fast lap (1:13.9735).  They were the only two drivers to break into the 1:13’s.
