Sage Karam topped all USF2000 National Championship competitors in this morning’s qualifying session at Iowa Speedway. Patrick McKenna was second with Zach Veach rounding out the top-three.

Karam was able to top the final practice session yesterday following an engine change under the Andretti Autosport canopy.

“The car was really good, pretty much the same as last night,” said Karam post-qualifying. “Looking forward to the race. We might just make a couple wing changes and we should be good to go.”

Patrick McKenna, who qualified second, was also very optimistic for today’s race but expects the racing at the sharp end of the grid to be extremely competitive.

“Qualifying went quite good,” said McKenna. “It’s going to be a close race, we found a bit of pace in the car. It should be a tight battle between Sage, Zach, and myself.  I’m sure the JDC guys will be quick as well, it’s going to be hard to pull away around here. I’m just really looking forward to the race.”

Veach who was quickest in the second practice session yesterday, qualified third. He will be looking to break a string of third-place finishes in today’s race which is scheduled for a 3:35 p.m. CST start time.

“I’ve only ran three races in a car and I’ve qualified third in all three,” said Veach with a smile. “I’ve been stuck with third for three events now, but I think third is a better starting spot than second so I can follow my teammate.  Our first lap was a little off due to a strong head wind on the front straight. I normally hit the rev limiter going into Turn 1, but I didn’t on that lap. I really like the track though, it’s open and we’re flat around the whole thing. We just have to focus on line and car set-up to be fast.”
