Rusty Mitchell has signed with Juncos Racing for the remainder of the 2010 Star Mazda season. The Texan will join Conor Daly and Tatiana Calderon under the Juncos tent.

This will likely be a really solid move for Mitchell.  The 27-year-old race driver is coming off his best finish of the season (4th) at O’Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis.  He is currently 8th in the 2010 drivers’ championship.

Last year, Mitchell finished the season with a career best finish of 2nd at Trois-Riviéres, after qualifying on pole.  In the past, Mitchell has driven for his family-owned team Mitchell Motorsports.  This is his third year in the Star Mazda Championship.  It will be fun to watch his progress under the guidance of Ricardo Juncos.

“I’m so excited to have Rusty on our team,” said Ricardo Juncos, Juncos Racing Team Owner.  “I always believed in his talent.  He showed everyone last year at Trois-Rivieres that he can win; he started from the pole position and should have won that race.  He has shown a lot of potential on oval tracks as well.”

The Star Mazda Championship will return to oval competition  June 18-19 at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Ia. Mitchell finished fourth at Iowa last season after starting the race sixth.
