Saturday Morning Reading

For those that haven’t noticed, a few months ago I was asked to write a weekly piece on junior formula racing for SBNation’s IndyCar Blog PopOffValve.com.  The section I manage is cleverly titled The Ladder Report.  For now, it’s basically just a weekly synopsis of the junior formula happenings (summarizing much of what I’ve already written here on Junior Open Wheel Talent).  It has the potential to develop into a lot more though down the road.

Anyway, this edition of Saturday Morning Reading isn’t meant to point you towards my writing at PopOffValve, it’s meant to point you towards the writing of the lead author over there; Tony Johns.

Tony has done an excellent job with PopOffValve.com and if you haven’t already done so, I recommend you make his site a daily stop.

Yesterday, he wrote an excellent piece on the ‘Road to Indy’ that looks at both the history and the potential future of the program titled “Mapping the Road to Indy“.

In the article, he brings up something that really hits home for me:  an endorsement for karting…

Karting is the nation’s most prolific form of motor racing and provides an enormous wealth of rear-engine-trained open-wheel prospect talent; it behooves the IndyCar series to tap into and exploit that resource.

The article hits on a lot more than just karting though.  It’s a solid piece and I hope it will be spread far and wide.  If you haven’t already done so, you can read it here.
