It was confirmed yesterday that Jonathan Summerton will drive the Walker Racing entry at this weekend’s Indy Lights race in St. Petersburg, Florida. Summerton, a Florida native himself, is looking forward to getting back behind the wheel after a few different opportunities dissipated over the 2009-2010 off season.
Fortunately, he had the opportunity to test an Indy Lights car with Team PBIR last week at Putnam Park, IN. in preparation for this weekend’s race.
At this time, the race with Walker Racing is strictly a one-off opportunity but if all goes well this weekend, there is a good chance we will see him back in the car soon.
Jonathan, 21, ran six Indy Lights’ races last season with Andersen Racing and two of them occurred at St. Petersburg. He finished 2nd in his debut race and put in an astonishing drive in Race-2 by going from 14th to 4th on the street circuit.
He completed the 2009 season in the Atlantic Championship where he logged 4 wins, 5 pole positions and 9 podiums en route to a 2nd place finish at season’s end.
I had the opportunity to hold a Live Q & A session with Jonathan a few weeks ago. If you missed it, make sure to replay it here.
