Liberty Motorsports signed American driver Matthew Powers for the 2010 USF2000 National Championship. Powers, of Danville, California, has a pretty strong background in karting but this will be his first full-season in the car ranks. He completed a USF2000 test with Liberty Motorsports at Andersen RacePark while in Florida this winter.
It’s nice to see more and more kids coming straight from karting to the USF2000 National Championship. I think this will be a pretty exciting year with so many of the drivers just getting their feet wet in the car ranks.
Although nothing official has been announced it’s quite possible that this will be a two-year stop for Powers. He will join formula car standout Terrick Mansur under the Liberty Motorsports canopy in 2010. Working with Terrick should be pretty beneficial for Powers and I’m looking forward to watching his progress throughout the season.
