JDC Motorsports announced a three car, three driver line-up this morning for the 2010 USF2000 National Championship. The team will reportedly field a fourth car at the St. Petersburg stop for Star Mazda competitor Chris Miller.
As expected, the team signed Mikhail Goikhberg, Raphael Abbate and Martin Sala for a full USF2000 campaign in 2010. For those not familiar with the three, here is a brief introduction to each.
Mikhail Goikhberg, 22, is a Russian born driver who is currently residing in Waterloo, Ontario where he is studying mathematics at the University of Waterloo. Last season, he spent the bulk of the year in the Ontario Formula Ford Championship where he finished sixth in the final standings while driving for Brian Graham Racing. He also ran two races in the F2000 Championship last year. His debut in the series was very impressive. He finished 6th in Race-1 at Mosport and put in an incredible drive in Race-2 by improving 11 positions (23rd to 12th).
Raphael Abbate, 18, spent last season in the South American F3-Light division where he finished runner-up in the final standings to his teammate Henrique Martins. He completed the year with 4 wins, 16 podiums and 3 pole positions.
Martin Sala, 19, finished 9th in the 2009 Formula BMW-Americas championship. His best finish was 4th, which occurred at Virginia International Raceway. He completed the season with 11 top-ten finishes… which really doesn’t mean much considering the entry numbers from 2009. He improved his race position (from his qualifying spot) in 57.1% of his races… which might be a more useful statistic. The Colombian driver developed his craft in the karting ranks with a specialty in the KF2 division. Notable karting performances include a 9th at the 2008 Bridgestone Cup in Switzerland and a 10th place finish at the 2008 Italian Open Masters (KF2).
