Adam Christodoulou tests with Stargate Worlds

Adam Christodoulou, who won the 2009 Star Mazda Championship, had the opportunity to sample an Atlantic Championship car this week at Buttonwillow with Team Stargate Worlds.

Christodoulou, 20, completed nearly 400 miles during the two-day test.  It was his first time in an Atlantic Championship car.

Adam hasn’t announced any plans for 2010, but his prize for winning the Star Mazda Championship is a fully-funded ride in the Atlantic Championship courtesy of the MazdaSPEED Driver Development program.  He plans to get back behind the wheel of an Atlantic car next month— at Sebring International Raceway— for the first Official test of the 2010 season.

Christodoulou won the 2008 UK Formula Renault 2.0 championship before coming to the United States to compete in Star Mazda.  Last season, in Star Mazda competition, he had 3 wins, 9 podiums and 2 pole positions in 13-starts.

I’d really like to see Christodoulou move to Atlantics. He drove brilliantly in Star Mazda last year, and Atlantics would be an easy evolutionary step for him given the champion’s bonus of a full ride. Hopefully, his future opportunities will keep him in the US to compete in FIL and IndyCar, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see him move to F2 or GP2 in 2011.

Any word on what Peter Dempsey is doing for 2010? I’d hate to see him get stuck in Star Mazda like Ardoin. He’s too good to stay at that level.

Hi Doug. Thanks for the comment.

I’ve spoken to Peter on a few occasions this off-season and he is still planning to run Indy Lights in 2010 (pending the right opportunity). He broke his thumb/wrist at the Formula Ford Festival this fall, so he hasn’t had an opportunity to do much off-season testing. I know he plans to get back in a car in January.
