John Michael Edwards was interviewed last night on SpeedFreaks.tv and basically alluded to the fact that he will most likely not be competing in the IndyCar series in 2010:

That whole deal looks like it may have fallen apart.

We’re looking at alternatives.  Looking pretty heavily at Indy Lights because the sponsors we do have are American and aside from IndyCar, the next logical place to go is Lights.  That’s looking more and more like where I’ll end up.

To be honest, I’m not sure why this wasn’t an option to begin with.  I’m confident in John’s ability to jump into an IndyCar, but why rush things?  He is only 18 years old and clearly has a bright future ahead of him. A year of development in the Indy Lights series couldn’t hurt.

To me, the next logical step was always Indy Lights.

Later in the interview, John makes it pretty clear that his ultimate dream is Formula One.  There is no mention of GP2 for 2010, nor has their been since the initial annoucement from NWR.  The path from Indy Lights-to-IndyCar-to-F1 isn’t highly traveled—- but, that doesn’t mean it’s not a feasible route.
