Josef Newgarden completed his 2009 British Formula Ford campaign by standing on the podium in Rounds 24 & 25.
He concluded the season as the top rookie in the MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain. After landing on the podium in 64% of his race starts—- which includes a series-high 9 wins—- he finished runner-up in the overall championship to British driver James Cole. Despite finishing second, Josef finished inside the top-five in an astounding 80% of his British Formula Ford starts this year.
Newgarden, who is only 18 years old, had a tremendous year of racing in Europe. He won his first race in a Formula Palmer Audi car, taking two out of three races in his debut weekend.
Last October, Josef became the first American to win the prestigious Formula Ford Festival competing in the Kent Class. He will return to Brands Hatch next weekend, October 17th-18th, 2009, to defend his title.
The 18-year-old race driver has yet to officially release his 2010 plans, but it sounds like he will be competing in the ultra-competitive British F3 Championship:
“It’s been a great season of competition and I want to congratulate James Cole.”
“One thing is for sure, I’ll be looking forward to racing against Cole again next year in the British F3.”
The young American has devoted his life to becoming a Formula One driver and, so far, he certainly looks to be on the right track.
