The Skip Barber National championship completed Rounds 11 & 12 over the weekend at Road Atlanta.  The competitor’s were running alongside fellow junior formula series; Star Mazda and the Atlantic Championship as part of the Petit Le Mans weekend in Georgia.

Fourteen must have been the lucky number on Friday as Sean Rayhall (Rd-11 Winner) and Sage Karam (Rd-12 Winner) are both only 14 years of age.

Make the jump for the full race report…

Sean Rayhall

Ironically, Rayhall also won last year’s Round 11 of the Skip Barber National championship.  It was a historical feat as he was the declared the youngest race winner in Skip Barber National history…. he was 13. This year Rayhall qualified 3rd and won the 14-lap event by 0.262 seconds over Court Vernon.  Spencer Pigot had a very nice run to finish 3rd, claiming the final spot on the podium.

Robert La Rocca and Isaac Lyons finished fourth and fifth respectively.  Isaac Lyons put in the drive of the weekend to finish 5th, his best result of the year.  He earned the hard charger award of Round-11 by improving 9 positions.  He started the race in 14th and finished 5th.

Sage Karam

Nazareth, Pennsylvania’s Sage Karam won Round-12 after starting the race in fourth.  It was his first career Skip Barber National win.  Sage has been quick all year.  He had led 10-laps this season heading into the event but had previously been unable to capitalize and find his way to victory lane.  Not this time.  The 14-year-old put his head down and crossed the stripe a mere 0.065 seconds ahead of championship leader Connor De Phillippi.  Round-11 winner Sean Rayhall finished 3rd.

Ashley Freiberg earned the hard charger award by improving 7 positions in the 11-lap event.  The 17-year-old Illinois resident finished 4th after starting 11th.  She also set the fastest lap of the race 1:35.073.

Honorable mention should go to Dennis Trebing who finished 5th after earning his first career pole position in Round-12 qualifying.
