Alexander Rossi completed his 2009 International Formula Master season by winning the final race in Imola by 1.698 seconds over Josef Kral. The 17-year-old American secured the IFM Rookie Title with the victory. In 16 starts this year, he had 3 wins and 5 podium finishes.
He offered this after Sunday’s win:
“I was racing my team-mate today and you have to be a bit more careful in those cases but I kept pushing harder and harder, and eventually the opportunity was there and I took it,” said Rossi.
“Once I was through, it wasn’t long before Josef moved to second and I could see he was fast so I kept pushing until the chequered flag.”
Now that he has won the IFM Rookie Title, he will be awarded an Indy Lights test. Unless, of course, he declines the test as Michael Ammermüller did last season. There have also been reports that Rossi will test a GP2 car early next month at Jerez in preparation for his F1 test with BMW-Sauber at the same circuit in December. He has yet to announce any further plans.
