Brett Smrz

Brett Smrz, 18- Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho

Current Season: Brett has had a very busy year, competing in the Skip Barber National Series, Mazda MX-5 Cup, and the Jim Russell Championship.  Due to funding issues, he was unable to continue in all three series and has since chose to focus on the Jim Russell Championship.  After narrowing his focus, he has won four straight races in the JRC. Earlier this season, he found his way to victory lane in the Skip Barber National Series at VIR after starting 6th.

Previous Experience:

  • Karting
  • (2007) SCCA Regional F1600 (multi-race winner)
  • (2007-2009) Mazda MX-5 Cup
  • (2008) Skip Barber Regional
  • (2008) Jim Russell Championship Series (1st place overall)

Why He Would Be A Good Selection: Brett is a true competitor and clearly has a natural ability behind the wheel of a race car.  I think he learned quite a bit this year in the Mazda MX-5 Cup– in regards to patience and smart driving– and it’s already starting to shine through in his recent results.  His experience in the F1600 category (using momentum and smooth driving) will help him tremendously in Europe.
